Wine Advocate 88 points - The 2011 Embruix de Vall Llach is a blend of Carinena (28%), Garnacha (23%), Merlot (17%), Cabernet Sauvignon (18%) and Syrah(14%) and feels surprisingly fresher than the rest of the reds despite 2011 being a much warmer vintage than 2010, with a serious, dark nose of shoe polish, peat, nutmeg and ripe dark plums with some chemical character (diesel? Mineral?) and hints of flowers, Mediterranean herbs and spices. The palate is full-bodied, with ripe, balsamic flavors and plenty of tannin. The younger sibling is already a big wine. Drink 2014-2018. (Feb 2014)

Wine maker notes
Sourced primarily from 10- to 15-year-old estate vines, Vall Llach’s Embruix (pronounced “Embroosh”), means “bewitching” in Catalan and the name, along with the picture of a full moon on the wine’s label, are testament to the winery’s interest in biodynamic winemaking. Dark cherry-red in color with a violet rim, the wine has aromas of fresh earth and toasted oak laced with ripe black fruit. In the mouth the wine is ample and intense, with notes of ripe berries, freshly ground cacao and black licorice that linger on the palate. Meant to consume now or age for 20-25 years, this wine should be served between 58-60ºF.
