In the mid-nineteenth century, two of the leading Chilean wine producers brought vines from Bordeaux to improve the quality of the original vineyard of Vina Los Vascos. Chile's natural geographic frontiers protected it from the Phyloxera epidemic of the late nineteenth century and resulted in an unbroken line of wine stock that now produces some of the finest wines in all of Chile. The Sauvignon Blanc made at Los Vascos comes from grapes purchased on long term contracts from both the Casablanca and Curicó areas. These areas are supervised during the pruning and growth periods by the Los Vascos team.
Wine maker notes
Yellow robe with greenish hues. The nose boasts a selection of aromas ranging from vegetal notes like grass, chive, boxwood, asparagus, lemon verbena, to lychee, pear, pineapple, and green apple. Fresh mouthfeel with delicate acidity and persistence. In the mid-nineteenth century, two of the leading Chilean wine producers brought vines from Bordeaux to improve the quality of the original vineyard of Vina Los Vascos. Chile’s natural geographic frontiers protected it from the Phyloxera epidemic of the late nineteenth century and resulted in an unbroken line of wine stock that now produces some of the finest wines in all of Chile. A spring with little rain and warm temperatures that gradually increased towards the summer allowed to maintain the plant health necessary to boost the quality of this vintage. A frost-free spring ensured proper bud break development, blooming and fruit set. The grapes ripened slowly, which fostered balanced acidity and the right concentration of sugar. Grapes were handpicked very early in the morning. The harvest started in Casablanca, followed in Colchagua Andes and ended in the Leyda Valley, the harvests were directly monitored by technical team of Vina Los Vascos in order to ensure quality. The fruit is sorted before being chilled and then macerated for a few hours. It is then pressed to obtain the juice, which is fermented at low temperatures to keep all of its potential intact. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats under controlled temperatures between 12º and 14ºC.

Technical notes
Alcohol 14% , Yield: 10 ton/ha Total Acidity: 4.2 g/l pH: 3.1

Producer
The acquisition of Los Vascos by Les Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) in 1988 was the result of a careful search among more than 100 Chilean wines for one that could meet the Rothschild criteria for excellence. The property has been completely renovated, both in viticulture and viniculture. With over 2,200 contiguous hectares, 530 are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon (95%) and Chardonnay (5%). Los Vascos is the largest vineyard in the Caneten Valley of Colchagua and can easily maintain its, “Estate Grown, Hand Picked, Hand Sorted, Estate Bottled” status.
