Vinous 90 points - (90% tempranillo, 5% mazuelo and 5% graciano): Vivid ruby. Smoky cherry, redcurrant and vanilla aromas show good vivacity and pick up a peppery element as the wine opens in the glass. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering bitter cherry and mocha flavors, along with hints of clove and sweet chewing tobacco. Clings nicely on the smoky finish, which is firmed by smooth, even tannins that fade away quickly.
Wine Advocate 87 points - The 2007 Conde de Valdemar Reserva has a textbook nose of balsamic and spicy notes, dried herbs, pepper, a hint of mint, leather and smoke perfectly integrated with the red and black fruit. The palate shows a juicy, tasty wine, more spicy than fruity, clean and balanced. Drink 2014-2018. (Dec 2013)
