Wine Advocate 90 points - A blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, 8% Malbec and 6% Petit Verdot, the outstanding 2010 Artistry is a strong effort from this winery which seems to have been forgotten once Leslie Rudd purchased the home vineyards and converted them into Rudd Estate. It exhibits lots of creme de cassis and blue fruits intermixed with hints of barbecue spice, charcoal and forest floor. This complex, full-bodied, impressively endowed 2010 offers low acidity, velvety tannins and a layered, opulent texture. Enjoy this beauty now and over the next 10-15 years. It is also a heck of a value.  (Oct 2013)

Ultimate Beverage Challenge 87 points - Offers aromas of coffee and coconut. Grippy, tight tannins coat the tongue, accompanied by tart dark berries and a touch of green bell pepper. This wine would benefit from air and has the potential to age. ” (Jun 2013)

Producer
Thirty years after first planting its vineyards, Girard continues to produce wine reflecting the quality that has made Napa Valley the most famous New World wine growing region in the world.

Longtime California vintner Pat Roney purchased the winery in early 2000. Patís career in wine began as a sommelier at Chicagoís renowned Pump Room. Later he returned to his native California, where he ultimately became president of Chateau St. Jean, in Sonoma Valley.

At Girard, Pat continues a tradition of making Chardonnay and Cabernet-based wines. But he is also expanding Girardís varietal focus to Zinfandel and Petite Sirah, grown on century-old vines that dot the Napa countryside. New vineyard plantings are also underway on both Diamond and Howell mountains, which border the western and eastern edges of the valley.

As it has been in the past, Girardís goal is to highlight the flavors of Napa Valley and its rich, ripe grapes. A small portion of the wineryís portfolio also comes from grapes grown in Sonomaís upscale Russian River Valley, where cool weather offers ideal conditions for Chardonnay. With the right grapes from the right locations, Girard offers a lineup that features both power and finesseókey words in California wine.
