The Planchon Vineyard is a story of strength and resiliency. The property, purchased in the 1890s with a gold coin, is one of the few remaining vineyards in an area now populated by homes. Planted along the Sacramento Delta, these ancient, head-pruned vines have survived without irrigation in sandy loam soils for 80 to 100 years, protected from pests that have plagued other parts of the state during the last century. Stan Planchon, the grandson of the original owner, still farms the property, carefully maintaining the vital balance in vine growth and producing small yields of intensely concentrated grapes.
