Reserva is made from the same blend as Barca Velha, and receives much the same winemaking treatment: after the grapes are vinified by varietal, the wine is blended and then aged in new oak for one year, after which it is bottled and aged for a few years prior to release. The wine has similar style to Barca Velha - complex and tannic, with strong fruit and earth components, and a buoyant acidity - but with slightly less structure, and is intended for earlier drinking than its powerful cousin.
