The wine has a vibrant ruby red colour. The aromas are inten- se and complex full of jammy fruit, especially cherries and plums. The maturation process gives the wine elegant sensa- tions of sweet cocoa and rhubarb mixed with pure liquorice. Spicy notes of intense, warm black pepper are also detected along with distinct mineral notes. The wine is a true expres- sion of the terroir. It is flavoursome with good freshness thanks to the elevation of the vineyard and the high chalk composition in the marl soils. On the palate it is smooth and tannic and shows its potential to age. The intense fruit fla- vours include cheery jam. The finish is long and pleasant. The aftertaste has a clear sensation of sweet black cherries.
Well-knit and silky in texture, with refined tannins framing the layers of dried cherry and black currant fruit. Aromatic notes of herb and spice show a deep accent of rich wood smoke that builds through to the lasting finish. Drink now through 2023. 600 cases made. –AN
|The wine pairs well with well-cooked meats especially meats that have been flavoured with spices and aromatic herbs. Ideal served with mature cheese. Surprisingly good served with dark chocolate. Perfect as a meditation wine.
|Graziano Pra has dedicated his life to tending for vines on the ancient black soils of Monteforte d’Alpone. Having harvested the fruits of his father’s work, he gives wine lovers one of the most interesting garganega wines available.
Uncompromising in his search for quality and in the way he interprets the prestigious soils with which he works, his wines all have finesse and elegance with a distinct presence of minerals.
Born as a creator of outstanding white wines, he took on the challenge of La Morandina, an organically farmed vineyard on the higher slopes of the valley of Mezzane that produces authentic and intense wines. Graziano Pra has been managing the winery since the beginning of the 1980s, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather.
He has brought international fame to small wine producing areas such as Colle Sant’Antonio, il Monte Grande and La Morandina, small prestigious cru in quality wine-producing regions.
The approach to his work is based on being true to the land. Graziano’s wines are pure expressions of the land and the grapes. He loves the vine plant and tends to it with great modesty and attention. In the winery, he prefers to keep the fruitiness in his wines and all his research and innovation is based around how to express the outstanding quality of the grapes that arrive from the vineyards to the full.
The implementation of organic agriculture for the wines of the Valpolicella was for him an act of love towards a land which was untouched and uncontaminated and from which the vines steadily rise from the ancient marl fossils.
