Colour: Intense ruby red, turning to garnet-red with ageing. Nose: blackberry, it reminds of fruit and dry flowers, almost ethereal. Flavour: č it is a wine of great character, soft tannins, and is velvety and refined, serving as a powerful accompaniment to rich sauces.
Zanna-Illuminati 2008: This is a wine you will not easily forget. This wine showed bright, youthful acidity (the secret to its longevity, no doubt) and rich layers of red stone fruit and crunchy, salty red earth. As I munched on my delicious Rabbit and Cod in a slightly salted, delicate sauce, the aromas and flavors of this wine danced like wild beasts on my tongue, with sweaty horse and bramble notes, evoking, in my mind, an era when Abruzzo was one of the centers of the intellectual outdoorsman’s universe (did you know that King Frederick II of Sabbia, emperor of the Holy Roman empire, named the the region’s capital “L’Aquila,” meaning the eagle, because of his love of the art of falconry?). An unforgettable bottle of wine, thanks to my great friends in the Cinghiale club. But then again that's what you get when you are destined to be friends with great men...4.3 P.....Tasting notes from The Cinghiale Wine Club (Gino)
