The 2006 Carema Etichetta Nera, in theory the estate’s top wine, is undoubtedly well-made but it just doesn’t capture the essence of Nebbiolo grown on these hillside vineyards to the extent the Etichetta Bianca does. The French oak seems to largely overwhelm varietal and region expression. The resulting wine has more body and fruit but far less personality than the Etichetta Bianca, and comes across as heavy and excessively ponderous. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2024.
