Wine Advocate 89 points - Showing dense ruby/purple color, good, sweet blackcurrant fruit and black cherries with background oak, Clos du Val’s 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon offers more texture and richness than older vintages tended to possess. It has excellent purity, character and good upside. This wine should age nicely for 15-20 years.
This intense, complex Cabernet Sauvignon depicts a black color in the core of the glass, as well as layers of purple hues toward the perimeter. The nose exudes aromas of rich black currant fruit, followed by a hint of toast. Flavors of black fruit dominate the palate and lead to a full-bodied, powerful wine that is well-centered and leaves an exceptionally long finish. True to Clos Du Vals winemaking style, this classic Cabernet Sauvignon yearns to be enjoyed with a filet mignon of equal quality.
|Clos Du Val, French for "small vineyard estate of a small valley,” was founded in 1972 in the now legendary Stags Leap District by John Goelet and French winemaker Bernard Portet. After a worldwide search to purchase vineyard properties from which to craft world-class Bordeaux and Burgundy varietals, 150 acres in the now legendary Stags Leap District and 180 acres in the cool Carneros District were chosen, from which Clos Du Val Winery, a true Napa Valley icon, was born. Today, for Clos Du Val winemakers John Clews and Kristy Melton, it’s the fruit from these distinctive vineyards that serves as the foundation for crafting the balanced, terroir-driven wines of elegance for which Clos Du Val is known.
